The Farm
Morgan Creek Farms started in 2016 as a way to bring new life to a 3rd generation family farm. We strive to provide our local community with access to sustainably produced meat and provide an alternative to the large scale, commercially produced products found in the big box stores.
What We Do
All livestock are raised on pasture year-round, and cared for with high standards for animal welfare. We run a “farrow-to-finish” (birthing to butcher) hog operation, and raise steers from calf-age. No antibiotics, growth hormones, or any other synthetic treatments are administered, unless a life is at risk otherwise. All animal feed and bedding is made on-site—non-GMO small grains are grown on-site, and organically grown soybeans are locally sourced; all hay and straw is grown and made on-site. We offer a range of products from various retail meat products, to ½ and whole hogs and live piglets when available.
Our vegetable operation primarily serves our CSA program, a seasonal weekly subscription to the farm. We will also be offering retail sales of vegetables this coming growing season! All vegetables are grown organically, without chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers on a ½ acre. We employ crop rotation and cover cropping practices to help manage pest and disease pressures, and to continue building healthier soil.
We also offer the farm property as a venue for weddings and events. An idyllic property, isolated from all the hustle and bustle but conveniently located just 45 minutes from Philadelphia and 1 ½ hours from New York City, that offers both indoor and outdoor space for activity, including a pond for swimming. The 18th-century built stone bank barn holds an indoor stage and gathering or dining space, as well as an outdoor stage. We can also help with coordinating any other aspects of your event, including but not limited to, purveyance of contracted hires (e.g. food, photography, music, tent, etc.), production needs (e.g., sound/lighting, deco, etc.), and general guidance.
Why We Do It
Sustainability, community, health (mental and physical!), and wholesomeness are at the core of our values, and are what drives all that we do.
We value our animals deeply, and treat them accordingly by building strong relationships with them, which allows them to live a stress-free, happy, and healthy life. By raising them on pasture, the animals not only have the ability to roam and dig, they also acquire additional vitamins and minerals from the pastureland and the sun; in turn, the land is replenished by the manure and the general activity of the animals living on it.
In all of our growing practices—livestock, grain, vegetables, and landscaping—sustainability is at the forefront. For decades in the past, the farm fields were farmed poorly, which greatly deteriorated the health of the soil. We continually work to rebuild what was lost, and improve it even further—we have come a long way in the 10 years since Adam and Steph took on the farm! We feel that good, nutritious food is a key ingredient to a healthy mind and body, and a healthy community. We also believe that small-scale farming is an important part of the solution to the greater issues of poor access to good-quality food, and the detrimental effects of large-scale conventional farming practices. We strive to provide the highest quality food that is also accessible, directly to our local community. Finally, we value the land and earth as part of our community, and treat it with the same care and attention as we do our animals and vegetables.
There are not many farms or spaces quite like this one around anymore, and we love to share it with others! Adam and Steph held their own wedding here in 2017, an annual music festival for the last 10 years, and have hosted other weddings and events on the property as well.
Who We Are
Steph and Adam are deeply passionate about honoring Steph’s family’s farm, by preserving it, improving it, and sharing and enjoying it with others through a variety of avenues. They also love farming and good food, so why not do it all in the same place?
The couple met in 2009 working as adventure guides and living in Vermont, while still attending college. Steph graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in Anthropology in 2010, and Adam from Lyndon State College with a BA in TV News in 2011. They loved Vermont, and spent much of their time outdoors either rock climbing, backpacking, or snowboarding. The farm was calling them, though, so Adam and Steph moved to Quakertown, PA in 2013.
While Steph was born and raised in Washington, DC, she also grew up visiting her grandmother at the farm frequently, and experiencing where her dad was raised. Upon moving to Bucks County, Adam was hired locally as a news photographer. Steph was still on her journey to find her career, and in 2014 began volunteering at an organic farm with their vegetable team. Within weeks she got hired at the farm, and within months was also working with the livestock team. She had no idea this was the career in store for her, but she fell in love immediately and never turned back! For nine years, Steph worked for and managed other organic farms, during which time she found her passion for growing vegetables and raising pigs. She began running Morgan Creek Farms full-time, and started a vegetable operation in 2023. Adam still works full-time as the Director of Photography for a major television broadcasting company, and helps operate the farm in his “free” time.
Steph and Adam’s pet pig Xena came to the farm in 2016, and her arrival marks the commencement of what we now call Morgan Creek Farms. Xena was the first pig Steph ever worked with, and who showed her how amazing pigs can be. When she was being retired from her previous farm, Steph and Adam decided to adopt her as a pet to live a happy life on the farm. Xena is now 14 years old and living her best life. She has even adopted some pet chickens, with whom she graciously shares her feed and shelter!
